One more caring adult beside each child.
We are looking for people who can stay close to the children and watch over them. You don't need to be good with computers.
- Junior high students to adults
- Only when you can
- No computer experience needed
- Ota City, Tokyo

WHAT WE ASK
What we would like help with
Most of all, we need people to watch over the children. Start with whatever you can, a little at a time.
Watching over Houkago LabMost needed
Every Wednesday, 16:00–18:00, at Imoya Ponpoko (4-32-8 Chuo, Ota City). Stay near the children and speak to anyone who seems stuck.
Caring for children and setting up
Reception, accompanying children, preparing desks and computers, and cleaning and tidying up afterwards. This is where we especially welcome help from adults.
Helping at Furatto Lab
A place for children who find it hard to go to school (once a month, weekdays 13:00–15:00). It is a small group, so we welcome people who can stay calmly beside the children.
Helping at events and outreach
At summer events and visits to school and community festivals, help guide the children and prepare equipment.
WELCOME
Who we welcome
- People who enjoy spending time with children
- People who want to do something for local children
- Junior high and high school students who want to learn about computers
- People who would like to help a little on their free days
You don't need to know much about computers at all.
Junior high and high school volunteers are relied on by younger children while getting plenty of time with computers themselves. Some grow in confidence by taking on the role of helping others.
STORY
A junior high school volunteer
A junior high school student who volunteers at Houkago Lab was not, at first, the type to look after younger children. After being asked "How do you do this?" by younger children week after week, the student went on to build a Minecraft world for everyone to play in and showed it to them.
Since my child was small, we have faced their developmental traits and received many kinds of support, hoping to make things even a little better, but not much changed. Since starting to volunteer at Digital Kodomo BASE in junior high school, and being looked up to by the children, I feel they have become able to think about other people's feelings.
