How to Become Someone Others Can Count on in a Pinch

I forgot something, my computer doesn't work, I can't finish preparing for my presentation. When you're in a pinch, your mind may go blank. In times like these, the people who can help you have something in common.

It is easier for others to help when you can explain what you already tried and where you are stuck now.

Everyday small actions are important

Listen to people, say thank you, and return things you used. These small actions are not immediately noticeable. But the people around me are watching. People who you trust on a regular basis are more likely to be approached when you are in a pinch.

Briefly say what you want help with

Instead of just saying "I can't do it" or "I don't understand," saying "I can't proceed past this screen" or "I don't know how to read this kanji" will make it easier for the other person to help you. Asking for help is not a weak thing. This is an important ability to solve problems.

What you can do today
In case you have a problem, practice saying, "I've done this. Please help me from here."

At Digital Kodomo BASE, when children have trouble with computers or programming, we look together at where they stopped. The ability to receive help will also be useful for future learning.
