Things that worked before may suddenly stop working. Even though I'm practicing, I can't improve. I'm thinking about it, but I can't find an answer. Such a state is sometimes called a slump.
A slump isn't necessarily a sign that you're running out of steam. It may be time to change from the old way of doing things to a new way of doing things. Just like strong enemies appear before you level up in a game, there is a difficult time before you can grow.
Reconsider the same method
When you're in a slump, don't just increase the amount of effort you're trying to do, but also reevaluate the way you're doing it. Keep your practice short, have someone watch it, take a break and watch it again. Sometimes you need another method.
Back to small successes
If you stop at a difficult point, you can go back to the previous easier point. Once you regain the sense of what you can do, it will be easier to move forward again.
Choose one thing that makes you feel slumped and ask yourself, "If you could do one thing differently, what would it be?"
At Digital Kodomo BASE, we will review the way we do things together when we stop. A slump may not be the end, but a sign before moving on to the next level.
