Top Search Results Are Not Always Right

When you search, you may want to just look at the page that comes up at the top. Just because it's on top makes it look correct. When researching or preparing for a presentation, there are times when it is important not to make a decision based on the first answer you find.

Being at the top of a search page is not the same as being accurate, careful, or trustworthy.

Easy to find is not the same as correct

A page can appear first for many reasons, such as popularity, search optimization, or how easy it is to find. Accuracy is only one part of that.

That is why it helps to compare more than the first result. Looking at a few sources makes it easier to notice differences and weak information.

Compare more than the first result

Even on the top page, it is better to check the source, date, and other information in common.

It is important to have an eye for confirmation and not be swayed by how easy it is to find something.

What you can do today
After reading the top result, compare it with at least one or two other sources.

At Digital Kodomo BASE, we are developing the ability to find and discern as a set. There is a difference between being superior and being right.
