On Saturday, March 28, 2026, Digital Kodomo BASE co-hosted an event called "Programming Experience — Let's Make an AI Game!" at TechnoFRONT Morigasaki in Ota City, in collaboration with the children's support organization Kodomo Enne. The venue filled up with families, and the energy of children creating games with the help of AI made it an unforgettable afternoon.
Telling AI What to Build
The format was simple and exciting: participants gave instructions (prompts) to an AI, watched it generate code, and shaped the result into their own game. Children described what they wanted to make in their own words, and the AI helped bring it to life — no prior coding experience required.
The variety of games that emerged was remarkable. Some children built Mario-style side-scrolling platformers; others recreated Suika Game (Watermelon Game); still others invented entirely original concepts. Kids peeked at each other's screens and asked "How did you do that?", while parents and children put their heads together to brainstorm the next feature. The room buzzed with conversation, creativity, and the satisfaction of watching an idea become a real, playable game.
"An Experience Like Nothing Before"
Ms. Sakai of Kodomo Enne shared her thoughts after the event:
"A brand new kind of experience" — that phrase captures what made the day special. AI as a creative partner, not just a tool; families making things together; children surprising themselves with what they could build. The bingo round at the end, with cheers from kids who won prizes, was the perfect finish.
A Visit from a City Council Member
Ota City Council Member Takahiro Shojima visited the event to observe. He watched children working with AI to design and build their games, and later wrote a report about the experience on note. Please take a look:
