Numbers Need Sources Too

When you see numbers like "90% think so" or "10,000 people use it," it can feel like it's true. When researching or preparing for a presentation, there are times when it is important not to make a decision based on the first answer you find.

People often trust information more when it includes numbers, which is exactly why the source matters.

Numbers alone are not enough

But without knowing where those numbers come from, it's hard to judge whether they're really accurate. It may have been investigated by a small number of people, or it may be old data.

Therefore, it is important to look at the source when there are numbers.

See original information

Who did the research, when did the data come from, and how many people did they look at? Once you understand these things, the way you look at the numbers will change.

Numbers are useful, but they only provide strong information if you verify the source.
