Not Deciding Yet Is Also a Skill

When you have a lot of information, you may want to get an answer quickly. That is because you want to decide right away whether it's black and white, right or wrong. There are many chances to run into information outside school too, especially while doing research, preparing presentations, or watching videos and social media.

When you are not sure, it can be smarter to wait a little than to rush into a decision you do not trust yet.

The faster you hurry, the easier it is to make a mistake.

If you make a decision without enough information, you may realize later that you made a mistake. In particular, when it comes to stories and rumors online, it can be dangerous to make decisions based solely on first impressions.

It is often safer to wait a moment and view additional information.

Retention is not weakness

If you can say, "I don't know yet," it means you're not fooling yourself. Children who do not force themselves to come up with answers are less likely to deviate greatly later.

It is more important to decide correctly than to decide quickly.

What you can do today
When you see something that is not clear to you, say to yourself, "I haven't made up my mind yet."

At Digital Kodomo BASE, we value calmly checking things out rather than deciding quickly. Being able to put things on hold is also a great power.
