Making Things Helps You Understand How They Work

The way you interact with digital will change dramatically if you try creating something rather than just looking at it. Even if you can't do it well, the experience of working with your own hands will give you strength later on. When you share something you made or care about, it helps to think about how it will be useful to the other person.

I tell them that the experience of making something will lead to an understanding of how it works, and that you will learn something that is difficult to obtain just by looking at it.

There is a mechanism that is difficult to see if you just use it.

What happens when you press a button, why does an image appear there, and where does a sound come from? Things that may seem obvious when you just use them, but when you make them, there is a reason for each one.

Once you understand how it works, it becomes less scary.

When you become less "somehow", it becomes easier to approach new tools. If you just know a little bit about how things work, you will feel less afraid of things you don't understand.

What you can do today
Look at the screens you use regularly and think, "How does this work?"

At Digital Kodomo BASE, we value the experience of making something more than a good work. Digital becomes more interesting when you turn to the creator side.
