NPO Digital Kodomo BASE’s free “Illustration Library for Children’s Learning and Activities” (https://digitalkodomo.jp/kyozai-sozai/) now has 20,338 files (7,697 kinds). It launched with about 10,000 files on September 27, 2026, and has doubled in about two weeks. For non-profit children’s activities — at home, in after-school programs, children’s clubs, NPOs and community events — the illustrations are free to use with no application needed.
Please note: the library’s pages, titles and worksheets are in Japanese only. The illustrations themselves contain no text and can be used in any language.
* The file count includes every version of the same picture (transparent background, black-and-white, mirrored, 16:9, image versions of worksheets, etc.). The number of kinds counts those versions as one.
1. Scene illustrations for all 500 manga stories
We added the scene illustrations for stories No.341–500 (160 stories) of “Learn with Manga: AI & Digital Literacy”, so the library now has the pictures from all 500 stories. Each scene comes in three versions: original, 16:9 and black-and-white, ready for slides and newsletters. We also added worksheets (three types) for those 160 stories.
2. 960 new illustrations (16 groups × 60)
Haru, Mio and Ai
Scenes
- Digital for everyone / Adults and children using digital together / Digital around town
- Feelings and digital / Digital jobs
Diagrams and parts
- Programming ideas in everyday life / Creators’ rights / Numbers, data and graphs
- Digital on a disaster day / The earth and digital / Game-making parts
These were made to go with the manga’s new themes, such as programming, disaster preparedness, accessibility, creators’ rights and digital jobs. They can be used for talking about a story after reading it, or for the newsletters, notices and slides you make yourselves.
3. Ideas for use
- At home: a family rules chart or disaster memo made with your child
- In after-school programs and community spaces: notices, posters and activity records
- At children’s clubs, NPOs and community events: flyers, slides and workshop handouts
4. Terms of use (unchanged)
For non-profit children’s activities (at home, after-school programs, children’s clubs, NPOs, libraries, community activities, etc.), the illustrations are free with no application needed, and you may edit them. Credit is optional. Please refrain from commercial use (paid services, paid teaching materials or publications, advertising, merchandise, etc.). Redistributing or selling the illustrations themselves, or using them in a way that looks like an official communication from our organization, is not allowed. For details, see “ご利用にあたって” (Terms of use, in Japanese) on the library page. If you are unsure, please contact us.
5. What’s next
We will keep adding illustrations as new manga stories are published. If there is a picture you would like, please let us know. This site is run with the support of donors and supporters; you can support us on our donation page.
