What you write now may still be there in ten years, when you apply to a school or choose work.
This isn't a threat. Just changing your measure from "is this funny now" to "am I fine with this later" changes what you choose.
Use Future-You as the Measure
Things written to get a laugh from today's friends are often things you won't want to read yourself in a few years.
Words that hurt someone, snap judgements, going along with the moment. Time tends to keep exactly what you'd least want kept.
The you of a few years from now reads with calmer eyes. "Would that version of me be embarrassed?" is the clearest test.
Some Things Are Good to Keep
Things you made, things you kept up, times you helped someone. Those are footprints worth having.
If it's going to stay anyway, add more of the good kind. That's easier than reducing the bad.
Before posting, ask whether you'd be fine with it in ten years.
At Digital Kodomo BASE, we value choosing with future-you in mind.
