Be Someone Who Treats Older People Well

In town and in shops, you see people walking slowly, or pausing on the stairs.

Those people also spent a long time building the town you live in. The shops, the roads, the local events: someone kept them going.

Small Things You Can Do Today

Offer your seat, hold a door, carry something light, step aside. None of it is difficult.

How you offer matters. Asking "shall I carry that?" before you move makes it easy for them to say no. If they do, don't worry about it.

Ask, and You'll Hear Things You Didn't Know

Grandparents and older neighbours know about the time before you were born. Ask, and stories come out that aren't in textbooks.

When you're in a hurry, you don't have to step in. Even a greeting gets through.

What the town used to look like, the games they played, the work they did. Asking while they can still tell you becomes yours to keep.

What you can do today
Ask an older family member or neighbour about one game they played as a child.

At Digital Kodomo BASE, we value time spent learning from people older than us.
