近い「これ」と遠い「あれ」
近いThis is ＋ 名詞 ── これは〜です
遠いThat is ＋ 名詞 ── あれは〜です
例文：
- This is my book. ── これは私の本です。
- This is a cat. ── これは猫です。
- That is my house. ── あれは私の家です。
- That is a beautiful flower. ── あれはきれいな花です。
be動詞の3つ目 ── is が登場
これまで be動詞は am（I）と are（You）の2つを使ってきました。Lesson 3 では3つ目、is が登場します。

「I」と「You」以外の主語はすべて is を使う、と覚えればOK。これが 3人称単数と呼ばれる範囲です。
短縮形 ── that is → that's
会話では短くしてしまうのが普通です。
①that is → that's
②he is → he's
③she is → she's
④it is → it's
- that is → that's はあるが、this is → this's はない。
- this is は2語のままで使う。
否定文：is の後ろに not
be動詞の否定文の作り方は am, are と同じ。is の後ろに not を入れます。
普通This is my book.
否定This is not my book.
短縮This isn't my book.
- That is not my house. ── あれは私の家ではない。
- This isn't a cat. ── これは猫ではない。
- She isn't Hana. ── 彼女は花ではない。
疑問文：Is を文の先頭に
am や are と同じパターン。Is を文の先頭に置きます。
普通This is your book.
疑問Is this your book? ── 主語と is を入れ替える
Is this ...? に答える
- はい → Yes, it is.
- いいえ → No, it is not.（または No, it isn't. / No, it's not.）
- 聞かれたものは this だが、答えるときは it（それ）に置きかえる。
- これは英語の作法。「すでに話題に出たもの」は it で受ける。
- Yes, it is. / No, it isn't. をワンセットで覚える。
What疑問文：「これは何ですか？」
「何？」と聞きたいときは、What is + 主語 の語順。
①What is this? ── これは何ですか？
②What is that? ── あれは何ですか？
What is は短縮して What's と書くことも。
例文と答え方
- What is this? ── これは何ですか？
── It's a koala.（コアラです） - What's that? ── あれは何ですか？
── It's a temple.（寺です）
答えるときは、Yes/No疑問文と同じく it で受けます。
he / she / it も is で受ける
this/that だけでなく、人を表す he（彼）／she（彼女）／it（それ）も is とセットです。
- He is Mark. ── 彼はマークです。
- She is Hana. ── 彼女は花です。
- It is a cat. ── それは猫です。
- Mark is kind. ── マークは親切です。（人名も is）

まとめ
- this ＝ 近い物・人、that ＝ 遠い物・人。両方とも主語のとき be動詞は is。
- be動詞は3つの形：I → am、You → are、それ以外（he/she/it/this/that/人名）→ is。
- 短縮形：that's, he's, she's, it's。this is には短縮形がない。
- 否定：is + not（短縮 isn't）。例 This is not my book.
- 疑問：Is を先頭に。例 Is this your book?
- 応答：Yes, it is. / No, it isn't.（this/that は it で受ける）。
