間接疑問とは
形：疑問詞 + 主語 + 動詞（普通の語順）
直接疑問 → 間接疑問
直接：What is this?（これは何？）
間接：I don't know what this is.（これが何か知らない）
→ 語順が「what is this」から「what this is」へ
疑問文：Where do you live?
間接：Tell me where you live.
「do」が消えて、live は you の後ろ
- Who lives here? の who は主語なので、もともと「主語 + 動詞」の順。
- 間接疑問：I don't know who lives here.
- Which is better? も which が主語なら、I don't know which is better. でよい。
- 「必ず語順を入れかえる」と覚えず、疑問詞の後ろに主語があるかを確認する。
主節と従節の例
I know where she lives.（彼女がどこに住んでいるか知っている）
Tell me what you want.（何が欲しいか教えて）
Do you know who that man is?（あの男の人が誰か知っている？）
I'm not sure when he comes back.（いつ戻るか分からない）
疑問詞別の例
- what：I know what he wants.
- where：Tell me where you live.
- when：I don't know when she will come.
- who：Do you know who he is?
- why：Please tell me why you are sad.
- how：I know how she does it.
3単現の s に注意
直接：Does he like soccer?
間接：I want to know if he likes soccer.（does が消えて、likes に s）
→ 主語が3人称単数なら動詞に s を忘れない
yes/no 疑問文の間接疑問
疑問詞のない yes/no 疑問文の場合は、if または whether「〜かどうか」を使う。
直接：Is he busy?
間接：I don't know if he is busy.（彼が忙しいかどうか分からない）
直接：Did she leave?
間接：Tell me if she left.
主節の動詞で多い表現
- I know 〜 / I don't know 〜（〜を知っている／知らない）
- I'm not sure 〜（〜か確信がない）
- Do you know 〜?（〜を知っていますか）
- Could you tell me 〜?（〜を教えてもらえますか・丁寧）
- I want to know 〜（〜が知りたい）
- I wonder 〜（〜だろうか）
- Please tell me 〜（教えてください）
- I remember 〜（〜を覚えている）
道を聞くときの丁寧な間接疑問
直接：Where is the station?（駅はどこですか）
丁寧：Could you tell me where the station is?
直接：How can I get to the museum?
丁寧：Could you tell me how I can get to the museum?
→ Could you tell me 〜? は道や時間を聞くとき頻出
過去の文での間接疑問
主節が現在：I know what he wants.（彼が今何を欲しいか）
主節が過去：I knew what he wanted.（彼が何を欲しかったか）
主節が過去：He told me where she lived.
→ 主節が過去のとき、従節も過去形になる（時制の一致）
- 直接疑問の do/does/did は消える。
- 動詞は本来の形に：does + like → likes、did + go → went、do + want → want。
- be 動詞の場合は語順が変わるだけ：is he → he is。
- yes/no 疑問文の間接疑問は if または whether
- 会話では if が多い、書き言葉では whether が多い
- 「〜かどうか（または…ない）」を強調 → whether (or not)
- 例：I don't know whether he will come (or not).
- 主節が過去のとき、従節の動詞も過去に
- 例：I knew he was busy.（彼が忙しいことを知っていた）
- 意味的に「現在も続く事実」「不変の真理」は時制を一致させなくてもよい
- 例：I learned that the earth is round.（地球が丸いことを学んだ）

- 間接疑問は疑問文の語順にしない。
- Where does he live? → where he lives。
- Yes/No疑問は if/whether を使う。

まとめ
- 間接疑問：疑問文を文の中に組み込む。
- 語順：疑問詞 + 主語 + 動詞（do/does/did は消える）。
- ただし、who / which などが主語なら who lives here のようにそのまま続く。
- 3単現の s を忘れない（does → 動詞に s）。
- yes/no 疑問文 → if / whether「〜かどうか」。
